Putting the SAN inside a blade-server chassis is rather logical I would say. Large businesses an afford to put completely separate racks and chassis for their storage and servers and other stuff. But if you are a small firm you may not need a fully server populated blade box nor a fully packed standard SAN, it looks like a waste to get two half-filled chassis. With a good blade chassis you should be able to mix various servers, ex a couple of X86 servers for standard apps, a Power/Cell blade for calculations. And why not a couple of disk-blades and a network/firewall server.
Fujitsu is on the right track but derails itself at the same time by coupling the storage to a specific other blade. It kills the scalability inherent in a blade box. ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/29/fujitsu_storage_blade/ )

The AMD atom, Bobcat, is not going to be dropped is suppose. Intel can afford to spend millions on a project and then just drop it, AMD can't. So I guess we'll see a Bobcat. But I also suspect it will get delayed in favour of a low-voltage Athlon.

Server-side rendering sounds like a good idea. But it isn't really. It was a great idea when mobile devices were seriously under powered. Mobile devices these days have plenty of processing and memory capacity to do all the rendering and processing, they are only really limited in bandwidth and battery. And even bandwidth isn't that much of a limit anymore.

Discarding the OS part from OS-es. VM has a point that running a couple of full scale OSes each inside a virtual machine session is wasteful. What it is saying is ditch your OS and use us as OS. There is some merit in the idea but the alternative is why use VM at all? Why not put the few VM-specific functions into the actual OS? Like we had/have the multiple DOS boxes running in Windows, or like we had multiple Windows, DOS (and PM) sessions running in OS2?

Friday, half past four the manager-2 calls cause he needs a program for a warehouse-move. Urgent. Must be done Monday morning. yada yada yada, Manager-1 chimes in with a "wait-a-bit yes, no, do-it" series of mails and phones.
Simple program so I stay a bit later and finish it (so I don't have to do stuff in the weekend) and notify the manager(s)
Monday comes and goes without a mention.
Tuesday noon the manager-1 mails to manager-2 that the program is ready.

Citrix is doing well. One problem with Citrix (and other virtualisers) in the commercial realm is performance. The idea is that you run a serious PC, server, and share it among a couple of users. And that's fine almost any box these days is more than powerful enough to do that (with business apps at least). The temptation though is to add more and more users, till they all are at a standstill. It's like system requirements on a software box, it will run on a system as state but you won't want to use it.
We run Citrix at work. With an bunch of servers, I think we use 20 servers for Citrix, shared by about a thousand people. But people are working in shifts and some don't use Citrix at all. Still we end up with about 20 users per server. And some older servers can't cope with that kind of load.

To bad, there will be no real space-race. If the Chinese go on at this rate with their space program the Americans are likely to find a welcome committee (and a take-away chinese restaurant) when they finally reach Mars.

Tips for the Acer One. Always welcome. And actually a good way to get your feet wet with Linux. Yes you can do these things with any Linux desktop but most, as in 99.9%, explanations about tweaking assume you know everything already. The sub notebooks are tapping into a new market with people not caring much about the OS. Yes, like most PC buyers, but when you buy a classic PC you get Windows pre-installed and most people don't care they just want some tips to get their favourite plug-ins and one or two non pre-installed things running. It's the first time Linux hits that type of customer base.

Some user are real annoyances.
They ask how to do something, you tell them and they say you are wrong.
"how do I get B and C to move?" "Well, you move B en C automatically follows. "That's impossible! You must tell me how I move B and C!" "Well, if you move B, C will be moved automattically." "No! no! no! that is impossible!!" "Well, just move B en then call me back if C is still a problem." "No, that doesn't work! I will call back!"
BTW, I didn't hear back from him. And when I checked later everything was moved.

Case-modders may have a problem with their in-case lights and windows when this type of interconnect gets real. The main advantage of photonic connections is that they are not limited to a two-dimensional space so a lot of routing problems fall away. And over reasonable distances the latency variation is low (one problem with current day connections is that the various lines of a bus need to be the same length). Of course the chips still work with electrons so there is a conversion step (with latency needed).
Now I remember well IBM did some work on optical chip-connections some years ago. What happened to that?

I have been waiting for an eBook reader like this for years. I still love the feel of classic books and eBooks will never replace them but rather than lug a whole stack off manuals and text books and novels around on the move, packing a single eBook reader would be nice. It would also be a great replacement for magazines and newspapers (if they build a larger version of it).

Intel shows the way for AMD. Neither need software in their portfolio to make money but both are entirely dependent on software and not just plain drivers. Of course AMD doesn't have the big funds that Intel has to work out a software strategy. So it has more reason to put money in open source initiatives. As it is now it is mainly dependent on the open source stuff the Intel develops and thus it can't move away from Intel's shadow.

The interesting point to note is not that Atom is out selling Intel's facilities. Or that there is an opportunity for VIA. The point to note is that the netbook market jumped from a fringe play to the main stage.
It started with a couple of small boxes and VIA processors and nobody looking. VIA just showed that there is a bit of room above the untouchable ARM chips. Then Intel notices, and moves in, but it moves in deceptive, it drops it's ARM line. And nothing changes, nobody sees the opportunity and window for beating Intel. I assume most people think Intel's move of X86 to low power -remember we're at the P4-150W chips time- is not going to work out, everybody expects an Itanium story. And then Intel shows it has a moderately low power chip. And suddenly the market explodes.
