1999-02-08, Monday

Lots of snow has been falling yesterday and tonight. I needed almost 10 minutes to get it of my car because it was frozen on. It's packed hard on the roads and extremely slippery, I nearly went off road in a sleight curve. At 20Km/h where I normally fly trough at about 70 !!. Once past Genk there wasn't any more snow left on the road. I did however arrive about half an hour later than normal but I was still the first.
The AS/400 was down untill about half past ten, after that I did pickup the problem in Norway again.

I had a discussion with Peter about allocating time for GUI/400. He would rather I worked 100% for OMSI-3/TeleSales 2000. But Gui/400 must be done and will be done. With the least possible interuption to OMSI-3. I checked on the availability of the rest of the team but that doesn't look good. Sven will be in Paris and Koen will be in Italy. Only Dimitry is available (but maybe he must return back to Chicago soner than planned). As it turns out I may well have to do it all on my own!

A new problem cropped up in Norway. They claim that the F58010 file for passing data to OFI is not correctly filled for FLEX. They are not realy clear where the problem is, arguing about psoitions in the qv@dat string. I'll have to check with John where the problem is but I expect their setup of FLEX is not 100% correct.
I wish for a new ice-age. With Norway covered entirely with glaciars.

Work on my daybook and not much else. The Web-manual is crawling on slowly. Writing a manual while learning the topic your self is not a confortable thing to do. It does produce clear understandable text for beginners but I have to go back every time and correct my errors.

Much time lost, this definitively was not my best day. While searching for the Norwegian S3 problem I lost track a few times and had to start over. It's not difficult but I didn't get my mind focused on it. Bad day.

The other Norwegian problem (OMSI-3 to OFI/FLEX transfer) is worked out more or less. In relase 7.06, which they are using, OMSI-3 never interfaces with OFI trough the F58010. All interactions go by way of the F58060/F58061 files. The F58010 is filled by OFI so it is in the settings from OFI that the solution must be found. It is most likely not a programming problem but a "tuning" mismatch. I suspect they simply didn't setup the tuning in the test environment and used the Venlo defaults or they did setup in the test environment but used a test environment that differs just a bit to much from production. And now they cry wolf.
I leave it up to John but I'll stay standby.

John got me a packet of tabaco (Aslbo Gold) for my pipe. I don't find that brand here in Hasselt, last time I ordered it in my regular newsstand it arived about six months late!

I changed the mail folder structure to keep related mail better together. It is now almost set up like a discussion tree. I think I will have to change again sometime in the future but for now it is workable.

I've been checking the OFI-interface methods, but I don't find prossible problems. Checking the documentation reveals no problem areas. This must be a 100% OFI/FLEX problem. I discussed that with John. He passed it on to Danielle (the one in Venlo).

Work on the UNIX manual.

A new problem cropped up in CS, production in NVM crashes with "CPF0001 Error found on CHKOBJ command". Koen had changed the membername determination routine in the CS-receiver job (CVC001CL). He had commented the filename routine as well. And passed it on to S environment and P environment (without testing?).

In teleSales we have a problem with the price-history function. Sometimes everything runs and finishes normal, sometimes the process never finishes. Debugging and counting I/Os, togheter with Ronny, doesn't lead us to a conclusion. The code looks OK, sometimes it runs OK, when it doesn't finish it seems to stop each time after a different number of I/Os. It propably is a Progress problem related to temp tables.

Wilfried passed me a problem with the related orders in OLI. This works but it doesn't give a clear and complete view of the relations. The relation indicator in inv747r (unchanged) and inv784r (changed) is not the same. This is OLI. But there is no capacity in the OLI team, and Peter is not here, so ... .

I've been reading up on Linux. I think that Linux is not realy interesting untill I have an internet connection. I definitively need the 2.3 release from Caldera because the 2.2 one doesn't support my AGP card.

I started to work on the related order problem for OFI but then Pieter Gruiters called for GUI400. He needs to give a demo of the Quality Control module amd he wants to show the GUI400 panels. So we went trough the GUI400RTS Pro installation step by step.
The RTS in the install directory is already version 4.1 so this is the first installation. The defaults are different, ex it wants to install in C:\Program Files\ folder and not in the root. We changed that but we eventually installed in the C:\GUI400RTS subdirectory while the previous releases were installed in the C:\GUI400RT subdirectory. So I had to add the S in the subdirs.bat and in the ocs.awc files and on the shortcuts. After these problems everything worked on his system. He is not satisfied with the colours however.
While stepping trough the installation I followed on my own system but I crashed. Deep. Not even repeatedly pressing ctrl+alt+del helped. First to the Blue screen, several times, than to a complete black screen with the mouse pointer as an I bar, then on the BIOS boot screen (before even the Compaq logo!!) with a keyboard error!!!!
Some time later, after checking first on Sven his system (but he has removed GUI entirely) and on the PC from Dimitri, where everything under GUI400RTS Pro 4.01c still works. Back on my system I tried again without success.

All right I was just inpatient the downloading of the pannelfiles took about 10 minutes and then evreything was OK. Normally, ex at Dimitri, it takes about 1.5 minutes.
I lost quite a lot of time on this.

Back to the relation problems.

1999-02-13, Saturday

Bought a new PCI VGA card for Miona because Linux (Caldera 2.1) doesn't support the Mattrox AGP card. PCI video cards are hard to come by these days. I found an S3 Virge/DX card (Sparkle) with 4MB-100MHz RAM (edo?sd?...) at 1400BEF but I had to visit 3 shops. The first one didn't have PCI cards in stock, I could order one but ... . The second shop didn't have PCI cards but wanted to sell an AGP one 'because they are better, PCI is not good enough for video cards...' even after I said I didn't have an AGP slot!!. In the third shop they had to look around in their stocks but eventualy found a few PCI cards (with AGP printed on the box!).

The electrician came to put the light on the computer room and to check the lines and make a cirquit plan for the controler.
