The log only started at the Friday of the 2nd week so no prior days or weeks are available.

1999-01-15, Friday

Just got a mail from Australia for support on Gui400. They are still working at it.

The problem is I changed projects , again. I left the OLI development team and joined the OMSI team. Now OLI was a purely AS/400 (RPG) project while OMSI is a module in transition. There is the old system on the AS/400 that still needs maintainance but there is also a new part, written in Progress with a client-server design combining the AS/400 database to Win95 Clients (via an intermediate WinNT database). This is totelay new stuff for me so I am learning new things every day. I got a new desk an PC (faster and bigger) in the process but I didn't install GUI400 on my new PC yet. This may cause problems if I have to give support for GUI/400 so I'll install as soon as possible.

PRS checking and job-passing from Mark to me.

Keys stolen from Suzannes car!!

Hiking first, then reading up on the newspapers of the week.

Shopping. New keyring, chocolates for the 31st, etc. Pickup SCSI cable at Eurosys. The cable is the wrong type, one end is ok (mini-din, male) the other is wrong, being a high density Centronics iso a standard Centronics. The difference was not clear in the catalog!!

There seems to be no way to get X Windows on Linux to work at more than 640x480x16. I'll just have to wait till the specific AGP drivers for the Matrox Millenium are ready.

More fidling with Linux but to no avail. I have been probing some applications that got installed togheter with the rest of Linux (I selected 'All'). Most of these under X windows don't look good at 16 colours and most simply don't fit on the screen. More anoying is the fact that quite a lot of them want to start above the screen so I can't get at the title bar.

The Psion-5 from my brother is repaired, the whole PCB was replaced. Now he has an English version iso the Dutch version. All the data was removed so now we tried to restore from the backup we made before the machine went back. Problem is that the restore simply doesn't do anything. It simply claims no differences were found and then happily closes. Simply copying (without converting) does the trick though. Adding a few new files from WordPerfect went well, after converting them from the old WP5-DOS format to the WP6-Win format. The only remaining 'problem' is that now the spell checker is english iso dutch.
