I spent the day mainly reading.

Until the Central heating gave way, filling the garage with grey blue smoke. We immediately shut it down and called the repair man. He did the annual maintenance just a forth night ago so I suspected he misfitted something.
Although it is a holiday he came immediately. The sealing around the front door of the furnace was broken and let in a counter draught, pushing smoke out by the intake, causing turbulence . The technician called up his office and someone brought a new sealing. This is a special type of heat and fire resistant material that is quite expensive, which is why he didn’t change it during the normal maintenance, the idea being not to incur costs if not really necessary. After replacing the sealing he didn’t get the door back on. After about two hours of struggling he want back to his shop. He returned some time later with more equipment, drilled holes, treaded them and screwed the door back on!

In between, while waiting, I sowed beans and banked potatoes. And weeded. And I spayed the lawn against moss. Maybe it will help this year.

I finish off pro027r but it must still be tested. Tomorrow.

There was still no reaction from Germany. I intended to call Volker but I totally forgot.

We solved the Data Queue problem we noticed on Friday. This was a kind of trial and error process, with lots of discussions and time loss on ‘possibilities’.

I had problems with concentrating on the job, making lots of errors and repeating errors and other stupid stuff. .

Finally the VAT problem is solved and ready.

Pieter called from Sweden with a question about an item he could not order. After searching half an hour we found that the item was on a contract that is set to generate orders automatically based on forecasts. In such a case manual ordering this item is not allowed.

In Germany they installed something from TeleSales in the wrong place and now they don’t know what’s new and what’s old.

We had a cold dish with asparagus rolled in salmon. Not bad.

I installed Dune on Hinja but the dialogues remain silent and via the mixing panel I cannot select them. The music is OK. There are currently 2 non powered cheap speakers, intended for a walk man, connected. With cheap I mean about 60BEF (1.5§)! This doesn’t produce sound you can enjoy, just sound you can hear. For the moment that will do, nobody is going to play or work on Hinja, there isn’t even a chair. This is just a test setup.

It has been warm the last few days. To warm and dry for the garden.

There were a few mistyfying problems with the VAT program. The order could not be found although the overrides were in place. In the CL program a dumped the OH file (after the overrides) and I could see the record but the RPG program still couldn’t find it. Until Ronny enclosed the copy to the _P files into a transaction block. That solved the problem but I still don’t understand why it didn’t work before. While testing the data queue could not be read a few times because I filled the key with blanks. I corrected that and compiled and still the error remained. After searching in dumps and job logs (dump command added to program) and not finding anything for several tries it suddenly worked as expected. This was an inexplicable but self-solving problem.
Strange.

I finally got to the French Order Confirmation printing problem (prs11540) this works here as it should. I sent a mail to France, requesting more information. Francis had specified the PRS without explanation, there was only the heading : “Order print confirmation : seems no to work anymore in R7.8”, no description at all!

I downloaded DRDOS 7.3 from Caldera. I picked out the text files and it looks like a good OS. I’ll make a good backup of Stone and try it there.

Theo prompted me, after consulting with Sef, to get something from Volker (see German mail : OFI interface and week-20 Wed (cal)). I didn’t get trough to him via the phone so instead of waiting for details I logged on to the German system (production) and began sifting trough the data to find possible problems that could be caused by the reported problem. I didn’t find anything wrong, which is not conclusive, but noticed that the conditions described in the problem occurred again.
I mailed this to Orth along with a request for more information (same mail as last time). I got a reply (at 16h30) that indicates the problem will occur on Monday or not at all. So now I expect a reply on Monday. I lost quite some time on this.

Hot and sunny, like the last few days. With a thunderstorm to round off the day, only there was much thunder and storm but almost no rain.

Because Suzan is not home this weekend I ferried my father to hospital and back for his kidney dialysis. So I got up at a quarter to six, like normal weekdays. I passed by at my brothers to drop off the rain barrel and check the garden.

I brought a 16 bit ISA sound card back from my shopping trip.

Normal boiled asparagus but with spiced up béarnaise sauce and a large tournedos. Of course I ate to much.
In the afternoon I verticulated the lawn, at the cost of some nice blisters, but that only removes the already loose clumps of moss and not the deeper and rooted patches that will spread faster (sigh). The only way to get rid of all the moss seems to simply dig up the whole lot and sow or plant new grass.

I banked the potatoes on my brothers lot. The last bunch, which was planted a week later may be ready for banking next week.

Later on in the evening I had a few quite moments with my father with a glass of beer in the garden. Such moments happen only once every few years and really push up the value of life.

Oh, and there was the Euro Song Festival, on almost all the TV channels, which I watched. For about half an hour. /p>

The day was hot and mainly overcast, sometimes with clouds racing overhead. In the evening it rained.

It was a bit to warm for running, even at 6 a clock the temperature is more than 20°C. I rather like lower temperatures for running and exercising, for me anything over 10°C is to much. I had no problems but I noticed a lack of practice.

Back home, I started peeling the asparagus for soup sitting on the porch in my skirt (I kept that on almost the whole day). The main problem is that soup asparagus consists of small pieces. Normal asparagus is about 20cm long but while harvesting a lot of them get damaged and broken all these small and broken pieces along with some strangely twisted and grown together pieces are lumped together and sold a soup asparagus. They taste just as good but you cannot produce a presentable dish with them and we humans (Western and eastern worlds) eat with our eyes. (In Etyopia and some other parts of the world they also eat with their eyes. Because there is nothing for their mouths. But that is another difficult problem.). I had 2kg of pieces and cleaning them took from 7 to 9. Full time.

I was busy the whole day but I didn’t do anything. A condition that is dominant these last months.
