Monday

Nice warm day, with airconditioning in the office.

Germany should get me an answer and hopefully France cicks in as well.

But first I start on the Austrian problem today.

Plans were disrupted by a CS problem. The End CS program (cvc005cl) does an endjob with delay 1 which means that the job will be shot in 1second as oposed to Immediately. This proved to be a problem because, sometimes a message gets aborted between receiving and processing. This had Wilbert puzled because the End CS program will only stop the receiver (with endjob) when the ststus is Delay. When a message is being handled the status cannot be Delay. The assumption is that the End CS program checks the status, finds Delay and activated the endjob. Immediately after checking the job can become Active, before the 1 second endjob delay passed. In such case and Active job wil be shot. We changed the End CS program to set the status Stop indicator preventing CS from becoming Active after the status check. It did cost us (Wilbert and me) the whole morning to find the problem and work ouyt a solution.

But now the Austrian problem.

A fresh interrupt, comming from Norway, cojncerning the statistics file. They have the problem that, in the data warehousing , which is based on the S3 file, they are missing half the revenues for May. I checked the TH file because I suspected something simmilar to what had happened in Spain ssome time ago. The TH contains inconsitencies however. No record has the invoicenumber filled in. A lot of records have the TH.STIV (invoice information added to S3) set. Some of these have the ORDC (order calculated) not set. If the TH.ORDC is not set the invoice is not made and thus the TH.STIV cannot be set. Something got screwed up seriously.

Still hot but more windy and a nice thunderstorm to finish off the day.

The Norwegian problem is solving itself. Although it keeps eating time. Yesterday all the records in the TH file had a zero invoice number, now most of them have it filled. From the 20+ impossible records, with ‘invoiced’ high but ‘calculated’ low, only 7 remain; this means they have a local program that is using the TH file incorrectly. Clearly they had build the data warehousing database before the invoicing was run. And then they wonder why they are not seeing the expected balance figures. Ts ts ts.
The invoicing was run last night, now they will run the TH processing ( Update OMSI-3 Statistics / Forecast / Assortment. in the menu ) and then they will rerun the data warehousing preparation. Probably everything will be normal after that.

Then I checked the German issue of invoices that don’t get interfaced to OFI. That is problematic because the session times out before the query I need is fully build. I did send a short mail to Orth

Guy Voortmans from the US called for more information about the PRO027 program. That is the TAX calculation program that is used by TeleSales. He wanted to know when and where it was called and what it actually does.

It is the beginning of the month so it is Rapport time for Suzan. This means panic and lots of lost time. She is hopeless in the vicinity of a computer. You can explain her ten times that she can delete using the backspace or the delete key depending on what she must delete, yet she will consistently and stubbornly use the wrong key. To select an icon she will move the mouse over it, lift her hand and hit the mouse button, twice, moving the object but not activating it. She keeps tapping the mouse until, by accident she achieves a double click. Hopeless..

Wednesday

The weather turned from hot and sunny to warm and sunny with frequent spells of rain.

Orth did check the OFI-interface issue and didn’t find a problem because no the invoices of the type that cause the problem were made. He didn’t inform me of course but somehow the information got to Theo (via Seff ??).

Guido Mast got me on the right track for the double printed invoice detail lines in Austria. I am now pinning down the code but it is tedious work. The main problem is that it doesn’t happen on all the invoices, just sometimes. Debugging would be very difficult and rather pointless if you don’t know beforehand which invoice to track.

I played around with my scanner getting picture acceptable for borwser viewing. Scanning at anything higher than 150ppi produces nice picture but files that are to large in size (bytes) for sending and to large in size (cm) for anything but full screen viewing.

The temperature keeps dropping and the spells of rain trough a clear day have shifted to clear spells in a rainy day.

The duplicate invoice line records in the invoice print file is impossible. That is using our common programs it is impossible to get the lines double. The only way to get doubles would be to use the same code for invoiced and released orders (to be approved and to be printed) but then the header records should be duplicated to. That is not the case.

The rounding problem is much easier to solve. The converted values are already stored in the files (HI,DI and KI) so instead of recalculation based on the basic values we can used the converted values directly.

I shuffled files around to clear some disk space. And I made a hardware inventory for Hinja..

Friday

I registered Opera. My licence code should be in the mail by Monday. I like Opera enough to register it. In most cases the HTML is rendered in just the same was as Netscape and MSIE but sometimes tags are not interpreted as the others do. Ex the DIR and DL-DT are not validated. Also some HTML errors are handled differently (ex put text in a table but outside the td../td and tr...:tr tags). There are to main attractions to it. The first one is the impressive speed compared to MSIE and (especially) Netscape . The other advantage is that you only get one Window with an MDI so your screen doesn’t get cluttered up with windows. And it prints the Wiki forum correctly.

I completed the OMS700D field usage research and made up a document for Peter. It just has to be cast in a readable format.

Saturday

It rained the whole morning. And evening.

The beans that should have been out early this week have finally decided to show up. Thanks to the rain no dought. Also thanks to the rain is the generous growth of weeds. Life with a garden is such a joy :-/

I made a new variation on the asparagus (again) using a Béarnaise sauce with Spanish spices. I also spiced up the soup a bit.

The dioxins scandal is taking grotesque proportions. Not only chickens and eggs are on the banned list but also fatty meat such as sausages, hamburgers, lard, etc. If this goes on for another few days we will have everybody in Belgium on a diet of bread (imported only) and water (distilled). Maybe if we threaten Millosevich with food aid from Belgium we can stop the war.

Sunday

It rained about the whole day with only a few dry spells. Most of the rain came down in a heavy drizzle, just hard enough to get drenched if you stay out for any length of time. I like to go jogging in the rain so that was no problem but it definitively was to wet to do any gardening. Mud doesn’t lend itself to digging or raking.

I started moving stuff from my room to the attic. It is really astonishing how you can fill up a whole bookcase without seeming to gain any free space. About 4 m of shelf space got filled up but only about half a meter got freed up. Unbelievable where all those books come from. And unbelievable how much time you can sink in moving books. Some books will probably never be used again so maybe they should be thrown away. But throwing a book away comes to me as something you just don’t do. Giving them away is often the best solution but who do you give a Tandy DOS 3.2 manual to? The Tandy died about two years ago (it is still siting here somewhere as an antique) so the manual is orphaned and nobody I know is using DOS 3.x anymore. Other books are in the same situation.
