Monday
We had a long discussion about the Credit Card interface. The Americans sent us a description of the interface to use. They did split up their original program. The result is a much easier execution (for us). All the research of the last few days was wasted. Checked my web site from the office. Here it is just as fast as other sites, while at home it seems to be much slower than other sites.

Tuesday
We finally started the actual implementation of the Credit card stuff. The peas in the garden are due for harvesting so I started at them. Before I picked up the daybook. And a bit of web designing. I ended up finally reviewing the RAID chapter.

Wednesday
The credit card module was going quite smoothly until we started to hit details. The biggest problem is that we must build programs that will interface the TeleSales system to an external credit card program. We don’t have access to the external program so we cannot test it and we cannot view the code and we don’t have a description of it. What we have is a description with sequence, name and length of the parameters to pass. We have no idea what the return codes will be. In a case like this you feel the difference between Real Soon Now and Death Line. Ronny got a new PC today. What happened is that he was using a Pentium 166 with 32Mb. This is to little memory to run the development environment. Well it runs but he has to shut down at least once a day to clear out memory leaks. We requested a new PC but that was declined because ... This is called a big organisation. At home I did some day booking, some webbing and an upload, which I should have done yesterday

Thursday
The credit card module, on the TeleSales side is almost finished. On the AS/400 the basic programs are set up but not yet finished because only the interface to TeleSales is done. The interface to the external, currently American, packet must still be made. Almost finished basically means that things work but progress is stuck in hard discussions over minor details. I think I found a solution to the current week problem. I first tried to use a the normal week with its number, ex week06.html This was not really practical because I had to change the URL on each page that pointed to the current week. This became bothersome so I tried to use a current.html page, setting all the URLs pointing to that page. This was better but I still had to change the next and previous pointers on the next and previous pages and I must keep the thisweek.html page synchronised with the actual weekXX.html page. I continually forget to do one of these steps. What I do now is point everything to the thisweek.html page and this one points to the correct week and transfers to it automatically after 1 second. This works but I am not sure if it is the correct way to do. I’ll keep this up and see if it is practical in use. For maintenance it is death easy, I only have to update the actual weekXX.html and once a week I update the thisweek.html file.

Friday
Picked up Ilse, she will return with Ronny. The credit card exit is going like a race. Only it is something like the 110m hurdles. With each hurdle twice as high as the previous one. We will get there. In time. But don’t ask how. There is a Company summer reception so people start leaving the office at about 14h00 to get to Antwerp. I never go to these receptions. It is basically composed of some pep talk speeches in the style of ‘everything is fine, the company is doing even better than last time etc etc etc’ followed by some forced socialising and a lot of self-pitying or self gratulationing. And if you ask for a raise the week later you cannot get it because although the company is doing fine it is not doing so good that it can afford a few splinters more. On top of all that I would spend two hours driving to it and then two hours driving back. No thanks, I’ll don my asocial hat again this evening and go home quietly. There is however a great advantage to such events and that is that the afternoon at the office is quite. I did about twice as much as yesterday. I only updated the daybooks and then uploaded them.

Saturday
Shopping. I made a bunch of small loumpias. The only problem was that they were not entirely dry when I stared frying. One of them burst open, spoiling the fillings into the frying pan. This resulted in a messy clean up. They were delicious however. It seems that the dioxin scandal which first pointed to the fat melting company Verkest was not an accident but a fraud. Originally Verkest was suspected of fraud. Then, because the people at Verkest didn’t actually know what was the origin of the bad oil, all the suppliers were traced down. A Walloon firm, Faux Gras (such a name is asking for problems of course) was found to be the supplier. So Verkest was off the hook and Faux Gras was on.

Sunday
I extended my running again, to about 7 km without problems. Maybe I am getting some sort of condition back. Than again that torn muscle was almost 8 months ago so it is about time to get full distance again. We did a bit of weeding and spraying in the garden. And we cleared out the rest of the peas. I tried to set-up Netscape to work with my mail account at Mailbank, Sjon - Svenson com. At first sight there are no problems but I don’t see any mail. I asked Sven to mail me today so I would be certain to have mail. I did set-up the account to forward mail to my office account and maybe they automatically move the mail there instead of sending a copy. That would be sensible for them as it will keep their servers clean. But it would mean that I cannot access my mail from home. I uploaded the food pages.
