The day starts out bright and sunny. First thing in the morning is washing the car. Then shopping. I braught back an ISDN card for less than a regular modem. The only thing wrong with it is that it has only one connector so there is no way to share a normal phone with it. This should not matter because the normal option acording to our telco brochure is to install a special box at the end of their cable that allows classic phones and digital phones to connect directly. In the worst case we cannot use the phone and the computer concurrently. Another posability is that only one chanel can be used but what the heck half speed ISDN is still about double the speed of a fast modem. Half speed ISDN is still 64Kbps where a V90 modem will only send at 33Kbps at best while the fastest receive I ever got was 41Kbps with a flash upgraded Zoom V90.
The afternoon was spent almost entirely on gardening.
I lost the evening on cat food.
Last week I wondered about my legs, today I did a 1 km run and did not get the cramping problems. By slacking the pace I could prevent them. I'll have to go carefully with this, easy does it.
The day starts lightly overcast with nice out breaks of sunshine.
The cat is still playfull. But not hungry.
Evening drowned in showers.

We had a long project discussion session to check how things are going. Some work wass transfered to the biolerplate on my to do list.
The incorrect Check on Warehouse / Item combination in Contract (PRS11248) got created and solved, all in one great swoop.
While at it I noticed some problems with pannels in the 7.08.0 release of GUI/400.
1999-03-30, Tuesday
The German problem got shifted back for later. Jan came in to check up on things, he will be in Germany tomorrow and will get us some more information.
I started on the request from Luciano Beretta for an updated list of files for his backup procedure.

Lots of time were lost in checking the GE problem for Germany. I don’t find a problem in our programs other than the urgency-code issue. I tried some receipts in Venlo and they worked.
All is quite on the home front.
1999-04-01, Thursday Aprils fool day
April fools day. And we will be the fools.
Still spending time on the German problem. They do indeed have a lot of records in the HI/DI files that should have a corresponding record in the GE file but don’t. We noticed that they have a (recent) local version of the IVC025R program but the we don’t find the source for it (the original source file doesn’t exist anymore!!). Searching takes a lot of time because they have a huge amount of invoices in the HI/DI files (about 3 million). A first query ran 2h45min to find the problem records, resulting in a 1.2GB temporal file!
The actions needed to put things right are not simple!!
A function request from the US arrived. They want a program to be able to produce letters containing price quotes and confirmations and offers and ... etc. The proposal is not overly clear. There is a proposed screen layout that is not entirely consistent with the textual request. This will need some careful analysis. We will probably use Wordlink started from a screen similar to the proposed one.
Reading stuff in stead of doing stuff.
I wasn’t fooled today (nobody tried). Tradition is dying.
1999-04-02, Friday
I am continuing to check files for Luciano. This is good for the documentation project as well of course (that is why I am spending so much time on it). I think it is finished now, everything prepared for sending via E-mail.
In fact it is not good enough for documentation. For that I should restart from the beginning and logging processes, not just files.
Been trawling the web. And finishing the January magazine backlog so I only have to do two more months before I am current!.
1999-04-03, Saturday
My brother is on vacation for a week so someone must feed and entertain the cat. Because someone has been poissoning the cats in the neighborhood we cannot let the cat roam about as we used to. After a full day alone in the house this nice litle tomcat turns into a veritable tigre. With sharp claws.
