Some day the weather will change. Looking out I notice that today is not some day.
Current temp is 11.9°C in and 2.0°C out .
I am now translating a bunch of programs to English. Everything here was originally build in Dutch with no provision for translating. So now I am adapting everything to make sure we can use more languages. Of course there is no time to do everything so I start off with some of the more common programs. Translating is fun. For a while. But it soon becomes tedious and boring.
Lucky me though cause there are problems poping up all over the place. And they need instant attention.
Luckily this problem doesn't happen often:

After five or ten minutes though everything works almost normal again from a user's point of view. In the early afternoon an IBM guy comes by and pops in a new disk. And by evening the array is rebuilt and singing nicely in tune again.
Dinner is Pizza.

Current temp is 11.1°C in and 4.5°C out .
To hectic to even keep track of the problems. Most things work but the communication between the EDI and the production machine is down. And a lot of important jobs require EDI communication to the clients.
In the afternoon we do get our heads above water again.
Dinner is rice with cod and a special soy-sauce with rice-vinegar.

Securing against terrorists using only the best technology. ( http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28386 ) No, it's not CP/m or DOS. Sadly.
An Intel against AMD test that is not biased. ( http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28338 ) And it tells the truth. The difference is in the system not in the chips.

We got half-open skies during the night. Followed by a bright colourful sunrise. The sunny morning has a fit though. In five minutes it turns from bright and sunny to very dark and snowing. That on-off switching goes on most of the day. The snow it either heavy half melted stuff splattering down or snow-hail clattering down.
Current temp is 11.9°C in and -1.0°C out .
Shopping. Wine , fruit, groceries. It's cool but sunny so I just wear my tshirt but halfway trough the weather turns and it starts to snow. Which means even more people, packed in thick winter coats, stare their eyes out.
I spend most of the afternoon fighting chaos in the dining room. It's not finished and on a casual glance it looks worse but it changed from pure chaos to organised chaos. Which makes taming next week easier.
Dinner is chicken stew with-out fennel. I haven't got any left in the garden and none in the shop looked good (they looked nice and clean but way too big and that means less taste). In stead of fennel I add extra onion and I work in chopped olives.

Much the same style of weather but the temperature is half a degree higher so it's all rain.
Current temp is 12.3°C in and 3.3°C out .
More cleaning. But no hurry about it. I did the kitchen last week so there is not much work on it now. Curious though there is more cleaning work in a clean kitchen than in a chaotic kitchen. So order attracts chaos and chaos repels chaos. (yay for new laws of physics)
In the afternoon I go to my uncle. I am not going next week so it's sort of a "Christmas" visit.
Dinner is chicken stew. Same stew as yesterday and, like most stews it tastes better the day after making it.

OK, the week begins and it is grey again. Probably till Friday. Most of the morning is wet from soggy meting snow and most of the afternoon is rainy. Damned wet all round.
Current temp is 12.0°C in and 1.1°C out .
Normal translation work continues with some support thrown in. Nothing difficult but a couple of big time wastes in there.
It's monday so I go running after work. Although, running. With all the rain and snow and stuff it's more like taking a mud-bath than running. All the mud makes running twice as hard and because it's in a wood the path is not uniformly muddy, it all depends on what trees are growing over the path. . At places it almost dry, in others it wet but firm (with slippery leaves) and in others is suddenly soggy, and it's too dark to see the difference. The unpredictability means I can't run with my normal long relaxed strides.
Back home I know what a broken doll feels like.
Dinner is rice with egg and leeks.

Gray and overcast. It is winter but it doesn't look like we are going to get a real one, just a depressing rain-season.
Current temp is 11.8°C in and 0.9°C out .
Work is hectic again. Well with W and L locked in a meeting and K not yet ready to do support everything drops on my phone. Luckily there is just one completely unknow thing that I get to find out and solve.
There is time in the afternoon to do some translating. so the day is not completely shot;
Dinner is spaghetti.

Gray and overcast. Don't think I like this type of short weather report.
Current temp is 11.8°C in and 1.6°C out .
Translating again. Till the phone rings. ... But the phone never rings for anything serious today. Which is curious. I am alone for most of the morning (W and K off to a meeting, R still on holiday and L half day off for a hospital checkup). That would be the ideal moment to throw a tsunami of problems my way, yet nothing came. Murphy is getting lazy (or busy else where).
Dinner is asparagus rolls. But I make them as unhealthy as possible. By adding salted pork, chopped and baked, and a liberal covering of cheese. Yay a cholesterol bomb in the oven.

Yep, -black- hackers dumping stuff on your PC isn't fiction. ( http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2005/12/21/bittorrent_botnet_attack/ ) If it's copyrighted stuff the RIAA will tackle you. But there are worse things that could be dumped on your box. Better check en tighten security before the cops get an anonymous kidy-porn tip and come knocking on your door.

Gray and overcast. And drizzling. Not that the drizzling is new, we had that yesterday to. And the day before.
Current temp is 11.8°C in and 1.6°C out .
More translating. While translating it becomes painfully clear how bad the text and layout of our screens is. It also becomes painfully clear how badly designed the stuff is. It is choke-full of screens that are essentially the same but just linked differently. Typical for a system that has grown ad-hoc.
Dinner is pizza.

Not true. Or at least not for me. ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/12/22/crop_top_warning/ ) No, I don't run around baring my hairy midriff, but I do run around in a simple tshirt regardless of the weather. And I never get sick.

Dinner is paella. Well I planned on some baked fish with rice. Along with the fish I bought a fist full of fresh giant shrimp, intending to eat them right-away. That was yesterday. But I came home late and well filled with pizza so I left them. Now I like fresh shrimp either cold or hot, spicy of sweet or anyway, but I and very cautiousness about their freshness. They looked good and fresh yesterday when I bought them I wouldn't eat them cold a day later. So I thought about some way to cook and eat them along with the fish. After careful pondering the myriad possibilities (15 seconds later) I decided on a Paella.
And it took just about an hour to cook that up (while you can go fast you cannot rush food). Very good though a bit spicy (and over-much).

Rumour mill. ( http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28532 -ps read also the linked news-) But buying a new chip-design team, that is less advanced than what you have/had, doesn't make much sense if it's just to replace a couple of key people. Better promote some internal people and head-hunt a couple good engineers (away from ULI). So, let that rumour mill grind another turn.
Mistakes? We don't make no stinkin mistakes! ( http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/xbox_360_mistakes/ ) Maybe you mean those badly understood features?
